Part 2: Describe something important that you lost in the past. You should say:
- What it was
- How you lost it
- Why it was important to you
And how you felt when you lost it.
| What it was | I feel that everyone in the world, including me, has experienced some form of loss in life. Today, I would like to talk about something I lost while I was in secondary school many years ago: My smartphone. |
| How you lost it | I had never owned a smartphone until that time when I acquired one from my parent. I can still clearly recall that the phone’s manufacturer was Sony. After I finished elementary school and passed the test to enter the only gifted secondary school in Ho Chi Minh City, my mother gave it to me as a present. |
| Why it was important to you, | Unfortunately, one day I went to the art studio to study art and forgot to take my phone out of the desk drawer in the classroom. My school was undergoing renovation at the time, and the class monitor neglected to lock the door to the classroom. As a consequence, a builder had taken my phone when I returned. I made as many attempts as possible to phone my number, but nobody ever answered. I also informed the school’s administrators and instructors about the theft of my phone. But there was nothing that could be done to fix the issue. I sobbed bitterly. My professors and friends reassured me that everything would be alright and pacified me. I was immediately astonished and perplexed, though, when I realized the phone was lost forever. It was not just because of its monetary value, but also because it was a present from my mother. |
| And how you felt when you lost it | Since I lost it, a lot has changed. I had to utilize a brick phone for a year before waiting to buy an iPhone 5 with my hard-earned money. Actually, the phone I am using today is much more superior and more modern than the one I lost, but I still regret it and wish I had been more cautious at the time. |

- What kinds of people may lose things often?
The elderly are the folks, in my view, who are most likely to misplace stuff. The old they are, the more likely they begin to forget everything around them. As a result, elderly people regularly misplace objects and sometimes are not even aware that they have been lost. Even though they may frequently forget things and misplace them, this is nevertheless accepted as normal since memory loss in older people is seen as a natural condition.
- What can we do to prevent losing important things?
My opinion is that taking pictures of the places where we store our belongings is the best method to prevent losing them. For instance, I usually need to snap a picture of the slot number where I park my motorcycle in the department store parking lot so that I do not go to the wrong spots. Because I have a bad memory, it is exceedingly difficult for me to remember where I put my belongings. Because of this, I have discovered that snapping pictures of the locations is the best method for me to stop losing stuff.
- What would you do if you saw something valuable but didn’t belong to you on the street?
If the item was a wallet or a purse, I would attempt to look out for the owner’s contact information, including their phone number and credit card details and get in touch with them as soon as I can. If I found something other than a handbag or wallet, such as accessories or a sizable sum of cash, I would wait there until the owners return to retrieve their possessions. If the owners do not appear, it is preferable to contact the local police department’s non-emergency line and inform them that I have discovered something important. It is preferable not to retain the items for yourself since, in certain situations, keeping other people’s valuable items is deemed criminal, and you may face hefty government penalties.
