What the event was |
While I believe that each event that we have the chance to participate in is unique and valuable in their own right, one event that particularly stands out for me is the first concert of Call Me By Fire Vietnam 2024, a television game show that grossed outstanding success both locally and internationally. |
| Where it was | It has been a while since the day of the concert, but the location where it was held is still crystal clear in my mind, because it’s a place that I had been thinking of riding to for a long time, but never had the chance. It was in Thủ Đức, a city that was nearly 15 kilometers away from my home.
Despite the distance, I was not taken aback at all. On the contrary, this chance for a long ride absolutely enamoured me, as I was given a chance to test my bike riding skills for the first time. |
| What happened | Now, as you would expect from any concerts, this one was all about giving us audiences the most ecstatic and luxurious musical experiences of our lives. Before the concert started, fans could participate in many different kinds of activities like minigames and fan meetings at booths that were set up by the 33 singers from the show’s fanclubs. When the concert officially began at around 7PM, the singers performed many popular songs from Call Me By Fire. Only until 2AM did they manage to finish the entire program, because there were an abundance of moments in the middle where they would share their feelings with us and engage in silly interactions with each other. |
| And say why you liked it. | Regarding my overall thoughts on this event, I would refer to the word I used earlier: “luxurious”. This is because during the 6 hours I spent there, not a single moment went by that I didn’t find myself bedazzled by the world-class exhibition of not only seasoned dance and vocal performance, but also eye-opening cutting-edged stage technology shown through the lighting, LED screen and camera setting. But beyond everything, what I earnestly felt at that time, and still feels strongly as we’re speaking, is my undeniable adoration for Call Me By Fire 2024, and I’m quite sure this sentiment won’t be changing anytime soon. |

- Why do you think celebrations are important in society?
From my perspective, I believe that any event, whether big or small, can impact people’s emotions and habits. What I mean by this is that every celebration stems from a part of our daily lives, and so it’s only natural for us to develop emotional attachments to these events, perhaps even allowing them to dictate our actions and thoughts. Take the grand national parade that happened in Ho Chi Minh city for the 50th anniversary of our country’s reunification last April, for example.
This celebration evidently came from the fact that we, as a country, could not simply forget and ignore our glorious past- fighting and winning a war the whole world assumed we were set to lose, all for the sake of our right to exist and be acknowledged as an independent country. And with that said, the parade was not only a reminder, but also a booster of morale amongst all Vietnamese citizens, that we are the legacies of our forebears, the undeniable proof that their sacrifices were not in vain. In conclusion, while each special occasion serves its unique purposes in human life, it is undeniable that without them, society might as well have lost a cornerstone in its cultural aspect.
- Do you think celebrations are experienced differently by the different generations?
Absolutely, I do think different generations experience celebrations in their own unique ways. Older generations often attach deeper historical or cultural significance to events—like Tet or national holidays—because they’ve lived through the context that shaped those traditions. For younger people, especially those growing up in the digital age, celebrations tend to be more about socializing, aesthetics, and maybe even social media presence. I mean, nowadays it’s not a proper birthday unless there’s a photo dump on Instagram, right? So while the event might be the same, the meaning and the way it’s experienced can vary dramatically depending on one’s age and upbringing.
- Do you think we will see changes in the future to events? And if so, what sort of changes might we see?
Well, as with everything else in life, celebrations cannot avoid changes. I think they will evolve with technology and social values. For instance, we’re already seeing more virtual events, especially since the pandemic gave everyone a crash course in Zoom parties. I also think people are becoming more conscious of sustainability, so we might see eco-friendly festivals or minimalist celebrations that reduce waste. Another possible shift is toward inclusivity, with events becoming more customized to individual identities, beliefs, or even dietary restrictions. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years we have AI-curated birthday playlists or holographic guests at weddings, because why not?
